Advice on WannaCry Crypto virus
Incident Report for Akvo
Resolved
Over 150 countries have been affected by the WannaCry Crypto virus since Friday 12th May 2017. This virus was deployed by exploiting the ETERNALBLUE vulnerability, found on older (below Windows 10), unpatched Windows operating systems.

The Akvo Foundation's servers and services do not run on Windows, and so are completely unaffected by WannaCry. A few of our team members are using Windows 10 machines, but these are also unaffected as the vulnerability is in older, unpatched operating system versions.

We advise partners that regardless of which operating system they run, they should install any and all available security updates when available. Your IT manager should be able to help you with this. It is particularly urgent for Windows users with machines that run Windows XP, Windows 8, or Windows Server 2003.
